How the procedure works - Wedge technique
Wedge Techni

Local anaesthetic is applied to numb the area then surgeon marks the tissue to be reshaped.

Precise removal or reshaping of excess labial tissue is performed.

Fine dissolvable sutures are used to close the area.

Why Dr. Karima Medjoub uses the Wedge Technique?

When it comes to labiaplasty, technique matters massively — not just for the final look, but for long-term comfort, natural movement, and sensation. While the traditional “trim” method simply reduces the outer edge of the labia, the wedge technique takes a far more advanced, anatomical approach designed to preserve the natural shape, colour, and function of the labia.
Here’s why it’s the preferred choice for women who want a refined, natural, and long-lasting outcome:

1. It Keeps the Natural Contour — No “Straight Line” Look

A simple trim removes the entire outer edge of the labia, often leaving a straight, linear border that can look visibly operated on.

The wedge technique removes a small V-shaped portion of tissue from the central labia instead.

This means:

  • The natural scalloped edge is kept
  • Colour transitions remain seamless
  • The labia maintain a soft, native contour

The result? A refined reduction that still looks completely natural — even to a trained eye.

2. Better Long-Term Structural Support

Trimming the delicate outer edge can weaken the border of the labia over time. In contrast, the wedge technique preserves that edge, which is the strongest and most structurally supportive part of the labia.

This leads to:

  • Better shape retention
  • Less risk of stretching or sagging in the future
  • A longer-lasting aesthetic result

Clients choosing a wedge notice their results aging far more gracefully.

3. Maintains Sensation and Functional Tissue

The trim method can disturb highly sensitive nerve endings along the labial edge.

The wedge technique avoids this by:

  • Preserving the natural nerve-rich border
  • Minimising trauma to sensitive tissue
  • Maintaining normal sensation and comfort, especially during exercise and intimacy

It’s a more respectful, anatomical approach to intimate surgery.

4. Reduces Visible Scarring

Trim incisions run along the entire outer edge — meaning a long, visible scar right where the eye naturally goes.

Wedge incisions are hidden within the natural folds of the labia, making the scar:

  • Shorter
  • Well-concealed
  • Very difficult to detect once healed

For patients, this is a major confidence-boosting advantage.

5. More Balanced, Symmetrical Results

Because the wedge removes central tissue, your surgeon can fine-tune the shape with much more precision. This makes it ideal for:

  • Correcting asymmetry
  • Reducing bulk without flattening the edge
  • Achieving a soft, balanced look

Trim techniques can sometimes leave edges uneven or overly thin. The wedge avoids that.

6. The Gold Standard for a Natural, Sophisticated Result

Dr Karima Medjoub, who specialises in intimate procedures, overwhelmingly prefers the wedge because:

  • It respects natural anatomy
  • It gives more control over the final shape
  • It avoids the “over-trimmed” look seen with basic techniques

For women wanting results that feel like themselves — just improved — the wedge is the modern gold standard.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces or reshapes the labia minora to improve comfort, symmetry and confidence. It’s commonly chosen by women who experience rubbing or irritation during exercise, discomfort in tight clothing, or feel self-conscious about the appearance of the area.

Most patients feel comfortable to return to light daily activities after 5–7 days. Swelling reduces significantly within the first 2 weeks, with full healing typically achieved between 4–6 weeks. Final cosmetic results settle over 8–12 weeks as the tissues soften and mature.

Scarring is minimal. The incisions are placed along the natural borders of the labia minora, so once healed, the scars blend into the natural folds of the tissue. Over time, they become very difficult to notice.

Most patients describe the discomfort as mild to moderate in the first few days. Pain is usually well-controlled with standard oral painkillers and rest. Using a peri-bottle or warm water while urinating can also reduce stinging during early healing.

Light walking is recommended early, but strenuous exercise, swimming, cycling, and sexual activity should be avoided for 4–6 weeks to allow the tissue to heal properly. Your surgeon will confirm when it’s safe based on your progress at your follow-up appointments.
