Ear correction surgery is carried out under local anaesthetic. It is a day-case procedure, so you won’t have to stay in hospital overnight.
The specialist surgeon makes small cuts in the skin behind the ears and then re-shapes, folds, or removes some of the cartilage to transform the appearance of the ears. The ears are secured in their new position, close to the head, with stitches. If there is asymmetry between your ears, the surgeon can correct this, for a more balanced, harmonious appearance.
It’s normal for the ears to be bruised and swollen after surgery. This gradually settles over the following two to three weeks. As you recover, the specialists at Bella Vou recommend that a headband is worn at night to maintain your comfort and to protect the ears. The headband should be worn for four to six weeks. You should take it easy and avoid strenuous activity for two to three weeks following ear correction surgery. Gradually increase exercise as you regain fitness, by six weeks you should be back to normal.
