Ear Correction Surgery Aftercare

After your ear correction surgery, your surgeon will provide you with comprehensive aftercare instructions. It’s important to follow these instructions to ensure optimal healing, prevent complications, and achieve the best possible aesthetic result.

Before you leave the hospital

MEDICATIONS

You will be prescribed pain relief and antibiotic ointment to apply to the surgery site once the dressings are removed. It's essential to follow this schedule to prevent any infection and manage discomfort.

CHANGE OF DRESSINGS

Your dressings will be changed before you leave the clinic, and you will be given instructions to remove the bandage 48 hours after surgery. After this, apply a thin layer of prescribed ointment to the surgery sites as directed.

FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENTS FOR DRESSING CLINICS

You will be given a card with the details of your first follow-up appointment. If you experience any discomfort or have concerns after leaving the clinic, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team for advice.

Facelift instructions

  • Have someone drive you home after surgery.
  • Get plenty of rest to aid your recovery.
  • Start walking as soon as possible to reduce swelling and lower the risk of blood clots.
  • Follow a balanced diet. Add raw fruit and fiber to prevent constipation, and increase your fluid intake.
  • Take pain medication as prescribed. Do not take aspirin or products containing aspirin unless approved by your surgeon.
  • Avoid smoking for at least two weeks, as smoking delays healing and increases the risk of complications.
  • Avoid alcohol when taking pain medications. Even if you are not on pain meds, it’s advisable to avoid alcohol for up to three weeks as it can cause fluid retention and worsen swelling.

Returning to Work After Ear Correction Surgery

Your ability to return to work will depend on your recovery and the nature of your job. For office-based, non-physical roles, most patients can return after about two weeks. For more physically demanding jobs, it’s generally recommended to wait 3-4 weeks to ensure proper healing.

Wound Care Instructions

  • Apply the antibiotic ointment to your sutures twice a day until they are removed.
  • Wash your face gently using a mild soap or detergent.
  • Avoid using makeup or other cosmetics on the incision site until it is fully healed, usually within three weeks.

Activities After Ear Correction Surgery

You can shower after the bandage is removed, but avoid soaking your ears.

Sleep on your back with your head elevated to avoid pressure on your ears for the first 1-2 weeks.

Wear loose-fitting clothes to avoid irritation to your ears when dressing.

Avoid driving for at least 1 week after surgery.

Refrain from strenuous activities for 3-4 weeks to prevent stress on the healing area.

  • If you wear glasses, avoid placing them on your ears until they have fully healed.

Follow-up

You will attend a specialist nurse clinic to have your stitches and tape removed.

A follow-up appointment with your surgeon will be scheduled to discuss the results of your surgery and address any concerns you may have.

Please Note: Many patients contact us before their six-month follow-up, and we are happy to address any concerns over the phone or by email. If you prefer, you can schedule an in-person appointment at no extra cost before your six-month check-up.

Cosmetic Procedure Screening Questionnaire

It can be used as a screening questionnaire to tell whether you might have BDD.

1) How often do you do you deliberately check your feature(s)? Not accidentally catch sight of it. Please include looking at your feature in a mirror or other reflective surfaces like a shop window or looking at it directly or feeling it with your fingers.
2) To what extent do you feel your feature(s) are currently ugly, unattractive or ‘not right’?
3) To what extent does your feature(s) currently cause you a lot of distress?
4) How often does your feature(s) currently lead you to avoid situations or activities?
5) To what extent does your feature(s) currently preoccupy you? That is, you think about it a lot and it is hard to stop thinking about it?
6) If you have a partner, to what extent does your feature(s) currently have an effect on your relationship with an existing partner? (e.g. affectionate feelings, number of arguments, enjoying activities together). If you do not have a partner, to what extent does your feature(s) currently have an effect on dating or developing a relationship?
7) To what extent does your feature(s) currently interfere with your ability to work or study, or your role as a homemaker? (Please rate this even if you are not working or studying: we are interested in your ability to work or study.)
8) To what extent does your feature(s) currently interfere with your social life? (with other people, e.g. parties, pubs, clubs, outings, visits, home entertainment)
9) To what extent, do you feel your appearance is the most important aspect of who you are?
