Hair Transplant Aftercare
After your hair transplant procedure, your surgeon will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to help ensure the best results. Following these guidelines will promote healing and optimise the success of your transplant.
Before you leave the hospital
MEDICATIONS
You will need to gently remove them after 48 hours, and apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment to the treated areas. Ensure you follow this step to prevent infection.
CHANGE OF DRESSINGS
Your dressings will be changed before discharge, and a light bandage will be applied. Remove it after 48 hours, and apply a thin layer of the antibiotic ointment to your suture lines.
FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENTS FOR DRESSING CLINICS
You will be given a card with details of your first follow-up appointment to ensure the transplant is healing properly. If you have concerns after leaving the clinic, feel free to reach out to our team.
Hair transplant instructions
- Have someone drive you home after the procedure.
- Get plenty of rest to promote healing and minimise swelling.
- Start walking as soon as possible to encourage circulation and reduce swelling.
- Follow a balanced diet, staying hydrated, and increasing your fluid intake to aid recovery.
- Take pain medication as prescribed. Avoid aspirin or aspirin-containing products unless approved by your surgeon.
- Avoid smoking for at least **two weeks** post-surgery, as smoking impedes healing and increases the risk of complications.
- Avoid alcohol for at least three weeks after surgery, as it can cause fluid retention and worsen swelling.
Returning to Work After Facelift Surgery
Wound Care Instructions
- Gently apply the antibiotic ointment to your transplant sites twice a day until instructed otherwise.
- Wash your hair carefully with a mild, non-alcoholic shampoo. Avoid scrubbing or using high-pressure water on the transplant area.
- Avoid using styling products or cosmetics on the transplant area until it’s fully healed, which typically takes about **three weeks**.
Activities After Ear Correction Surgery
You may shower once you have removed the light bandage, 48 hours after surgery. Use lukewarm water and baby shampoo, and be gentle when washing your hair to avoid disturbing the transplant sites. After washing, apply the antibiotic ointment lightly.
Sleep with your head elevated on two or three pillows for the first few nights to reduce swelling. Avoid sleeping on the side of your transplant area.
Wear loose-fitting clothing that you can remove easily, and avoid any tight collars or tops that may rub against your transplant area.
Avoid strenuous activities, including high-intensity exercise or activities that elevate your blood pressure, for 3-4 weeks. You should refrain from contact sports for at least two months.
Follow-up
You will attend a specialist nurse clinic to check on your progress, and the nurse will remove any sutures if required.
We recommend a follow-up appointment with your surgeon to discuss the results of the procedure and any ongoing concerns or questions.
