Direct Brow Lift Aftercare Guidance
Healing after a direct brow lift is a gradual process. Everyone recovers at a slightly different pace, but the guidance below reflects best-practice aftercare to support healing, comfort and optimal results following your procedure at Merchant City Medical Group.
This information explains what to expect, how to care for the area and when to contact our team.
Before you leave the hospital
Before going home
- A protective dressing may be applied to the brow area.
- You will receive pain relief guidance and aftercare instructions.
- A follow-up appointment will be arranged for stitch removal and review.
- Please arrange transport home — do not drive yourself after the procedure.
First 48 Hours
- The first two days are focused on rest and reducing swelling.
- Keep your head elevated, including when sleeping (use extra pillows).
- Apply cold compresses gently to the forehead area for short periods while awake.
- Avoid bending forward or lowering your head for prolonged periods.
- Take pain relief as advised.
Caring for the Wound
- Proper wound care helps support healing and minimise scarring.
- Keep the incision area clean and dry.
- You may gently clean the area as instructed by your nurse or surgeon.
- Avoid touching or rubbing the incision unnecessarily.
- Do not apply makeup near the brow area until advised it is safe.
Showering & Hair Washing
- You may usually shower after 24–48 hours unless advised otherwise.
- Use gentle shampoo and avoid direct water pressure on the brow area.
- Pat dry carefully — do not rub.
Activities After Ear Correction Surgery
During the first week:
- Mild tightness, swelling and bruising are expected.
- Stitches are typically removed after around 7 days.
- Most patients feel comfortable returning to light daily activities within this period.
- Avoid strenuous activity and heavy lifting.
As healing progresses:
- Swelling and bruising continue to settle.
- Most people return to work within 7–10 days (depending on job role).
- Light exercise can usually resume after 2–3 weeks.
- Avoid high-intensity workouts until cleared by your surgeon.
For the first 2 weeks:
- Sleep on your back with your head elevated.
- Avoid sleeping on your side or front to prevent pressure on the brow area.
Protecting the healing skin is essential:
- Avoid direct sun exposure for several weeks.
- Once healed, use a high-factor SPF on the forehead and brow area.
- Sun protection helps scars fade more effectively over time.
- Avoid smoking for at least 2 weeks as it delays healing.
- Avoid alcohol while taking pain medication.
- Reducing alcohol intake during early recovery supports healing.
Follow-Up Appointments
- A 1-week appointment for stitch removal and wound check.
- Additional reviews if required to monitor healing and results.
