Procedure Types

Full cheeks are often linked to a youthful, healthy appearance. Ageing can cause loss of volume and sagging, making the face look tired or hollow. Cheek enhancement can be done using non-surgical dermal fillers for temporary volume or surgical fat transfer using your own fat for longer-lasting results. Treatment choice depends on your goals and will be discussed during consultation.

The chin plays a key role in facial balance, especially in profile. A weak or recessed chin can make other features appear out of proportion. Chin implants are used to improve projection and harmony, with the implant placed through a small incision inside the mouth, leaving no visible scar. Results are immediate, and the procedure can be performed on its own or alongside other facial treatments.

What to Expect

Cheek volume increases immediately after treatment. Swelling and puffiness are expected at first and gradually reduce over several weeks. If fat transfer is used, some of the injected fat may be reabsorbed over time, with final results becoming clearer within several months.

You will notice an immediate improvement in chin shape and projection after surgery. Some swelling is normal and usually settles over a few weeks. The incision is made inside the mouth, so there is no visible scarring.

What are the risks?

After cheek augmentation with fat transfer, swelling and bruising are common during early recovery. In rare cases, some of the transferred fat may not survive, leading to small firm areas known as fat necrosis, which usually settle on their own. Very rarely, this can cause ongoing discomfort or signs of infection and may require further treatment.

Chin implant surgery is generally safe, but as with any procedure, there are some risks. These include bleeding or infection, both of which are uncommon. Temporary numbness of the chin or lower lip may also occur and usually resolves over time.

Commonly Asked Questions

Chin augmentation improves the shape and projection of the chin to enhance facial balance. This can be done using chin implants for a long-lasting result or dermal fillers for a non-surgical option.

Cheek augmentation restores or enhances cheek volume and definition. Dermal fillers offer subtle, non-surgical enhancement, while fat transfer uses your own fat for a more natural, longer-lasting result.

Yes, combining treatments can help create a more balanced and harmonious facial appearance. A personalised plan will be created based on your needs.

During your consultation, we assess your facial features and discuss your goals to recommend the most suitable treatment, whether implants, fillers, or fat transfer.

  • Chin implants: Swelling and bruising are common; most patients return to work within a week

  • Fillers: Minimal downtime with mild swelling or bruising for a few days

  • Fat transfer: Initial recovery takes 1–2 weeks, with some swelling lasting longer

  • Chin implants: Around 1 hour under local or general anaesthesia

  • Fillers: Usually 20–30 minutes

  • Fat transfer: Around 1 hour

  • Chin implants: Long-lasting results

  • Fillers: Typically last 6–18 months

  • Fat transfer: Semi-permanent, as some fat is naturally reabsorbed

Chin implants and fat transfer are performed under anaesthesia to minimise discomfort. Fillers cause only mild discomfort and are carried out using numbing cream.

Cosmetic Procedure Screening Questionnaire

It can be used as a screening questionnaire to tell whether you might have BDD.

1) How often do you do you deliberately check your feature(s)? Not accidentally catch sight of it. Please include looking at your feature in a mirror or other reflective surfaces like a shop window or looking at it directly or feeling it with your fingers.
2) To what extent do you feel your feature(s) are currently ugly, unattractive or ‘not right’?
3) To what extent does your feature(s) currently cause you a lot of distress?
4) How often does your feature(s) currently lead you to avoid situations or activities?
5) To what extent does your feature(s) currently preoccupy you? That is, you think about it a lot and it is hard to stop thinking about it?
6) If you have a partner, to what extent does your feature(s) currently have an effect on your relationship with an existing partner? (e.g. affectionate feelings, number of arguments, enjoying activities together). If you do not have a partner, to what extent does your feature(s) currently have an effect on dating or developing a relationship?
7) To what extent does your feature(s) currently interfere with your ability to work or study, or your role as a homemaker? (Please rate this even if you are not working or studying: we are interested in your ability to work or study.)
8) To what extent does your feature(s) currently interfere with your social life? (with other people, e.g. parties, pubs, clubs, outings, visits, home entertainment)
9) To what extent, do you feel your appearance is the most important aspect of who you are?
