Skin Cancer Removal

Our Merchant medical group provides expert diagnosis and treatment for all major types of skin cancer.
    Types of Skin Cancer:
  • Basal cell carcinoma: The most common type; slow growing and does not spread.
  • Squamous cell carcinoma: Can grow quickly and has the potential to spread.
  • Malignant melanoma: Often appears as a dark or changing mole; less common but more serious.
  • Treatment:
  • Most skin cancers are treated with simple surgical removal.
  • Reconstruction: Some cases may require a skin graft or local flap.
  • Further Tests: Scans or additional investigations may be required in more serious cases including referral to Multi-Disciplinary Meetings on the NHS.
  • Our priority is always to ensure complete skin cancer removal while minimising any functional or cosmetic impact, particularly in visible or sensitive areas.

Why Choose Merchant Group Medical for Skin Cancer Treatment?

  • Rapid Access: Prompt consultations, biopsies, and surgery, helping to significantly reduce waiting times (subject to clinical vetting, including pre-assessment images).
  • Personalised, High-Quality Care: Our modern facility provides attentive, individualised care in a calm and professional setting.
  • Private Alternative to NHS Waiting Lists: We offer fast access to treatment for patients facing long NHS delays, delivering expert care while supporting the wider healthcare system.

Treatment Options

Most skin cancers are successfully treated with simple surgical removal.
  • Simple Excision: For small, localised cancers, we perform precise excisions to ensure complete removal while preserving healthy surrounding tissue.
  • Skin Grafts & Local Flaps: For larger or more complex cases, reconstruction may involve a skin graft or a local flap using nearby tissue to achieve the best functional and cosmetic result.
  • Facial & Neck Reconstruction: For cancers affecting the face and neck, we use advanced plastic surgery techniques to minimise visible scarring and restore a natural appearance.

What are the risks?

The risks of minor skin surgery include bleeding, infection, delayed wound healing, permanent scarring (which can vary in appearance), and a small risk of the lesion recurring.

Skin Cancer Aftercare

At Merchant Group Medical, our care continues beyond surgery, with personalised aftercare guidance and follow-up appointments to support healing and address any concerns. When appropriate additional tests or referrals in more serious cases after the pathology results.

Cosmetic Procedure Screening Questionnaire

It can be used as a screening questionnaire to tell whether you might have BDD.

1) How often do you do you deliberately check your feature(s)? Not accidentally catch sight of it. Please include looking at your feature in a mirror or other reflective surfaces like a shop window or looking at it directly or feeling it with your fingers.
2) To what extent do you feel your feature(s) are currently ugly, unattractive or ‘not right’?
3) To what extent does your feature(s) currently cause you a lot of distress?
4) How often does your feature(s) currently lead you to avoid situations or activities?
5) To what extent does your feature(s) currently preoccupy you? That is, you think about it a lot and it is hard to stop thinking about it?
6) If you have a partner, to what extent does your feature(s) currently have an effect on your relationship with an existing partner? (e.g. affectionate feelings, number of arguments, enjoying activities together). If you do not have a partner, to what extent does your feature(s) currently have an effect on dating or developing a relationship?
7) To what extent does your feature(s) currently interfere with your ability to work or study, or your role as a homemaker? (Please rate this even if you are not working or studying: we are interested in your ability to work or study.)
8) To what extent does your feature(s) currently interfere with your social life? (with other people, e.g. parties, pubs, clubs, outings, visits, home entertainment)
9) To what extent, do you feel your appearance is the most important aspect of who you are?
