Procedure Overview

Before and After

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a “nose job,” is a surgical procedure to enhance the appearance and function of the nose.

It can address cosmetic concerns (such as a crooked nose, hump, or wide nostrils) or correct functional issues (like breathing difficulties due to nasal deformities).

Operation Technique

    • The surgery can be done using either an open or closed technique.
    • In an open Rhinoplasty, the surgeon makes an incision across the columella (the tissue between the nostrils) to access the nasal structures.
    • In a closed Rhinoplasty, incisions are made inside the nostrils, leaving no visible external scars.
    • The surgeon reshapes the nasal bones, cartilage, and soft tissues to achieve the desired outcome.

Recovery Period

After Rhinoplasty, patients may experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Nasal splints or packing may be used to support the new shape.

Most people can return to light activities within a week, but complete healing may take several months. Final results become apparent as swelling subsides.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Ideally, rhinoplasty patients are aged between 20 and 40 years old, as this is when facial skin is still mostly elastic and can accommodate surgical procedures without complications. However, there is no predetermined cut-off age for rhinoplasty. A fit and healthy elderly patient could still undergo rhinoplasty with minimal to no complications.

During the procedure, you won’t feel any pain as you will be under local or general anesthesia, depending on the procedure. However, you may experience slight bleeding and drainage of mucus and old blood for a few days after surgery, leading to some discomfort or mild pain. Swelling, bruising, headaches, and slight pain may persist for up to 4 weeks after the surgery.

The duration of rhinoplasty can vary from 2 to 3 hours, depending on the extent of the procedure and the specific techniques used.

  1. Light Activities: You can resume light activities within 2 weeks.
  2. Driving: You’ll be ready to drive again after 1 to 2 weeks.
  3. Physical Work & Sports: Allow 6 weeks before engaging in physical work or sports.

Like any surgical procedure, rhinoplasty carries risks, including bleeding, infection, and scarring. Bella Vou takes all possible precautions to minimize these risks and ensure patient safety.

Cosmetic Procedure Screening Questionnaire

It can be used as a screening questionnaire to tell whether you might have BDD.

1) How often do you do you deliberately check your feature(s)? Not accidentally catch sight of it. Please include looking at your feature in a mirror or other reflective surfaces like a shop window or looking at it directly or feeling it with your fingers.
2) To what extent do you feel your feature(s) are currently ugly, unattractive or ‘not right’?
3) To what extent does your feature(s) currently cause you a lot of distress?
4) How often does your feature(s) currently lead you to avoid situations or activities?
5) To what extent does your feature(s) currently preoccupy you? That is, you think about it a lot and it is hard to stop thinking about it?
6) If you have a partner, to what extent does your feature(s) currently have an effect on your relationship with an existing partner? (e.g. affectionate feelings, number of arguments, enjoying activities together). If you do not have a partner, to what extent does your feature(s) currently have an effect on dating or developing a relationship?
7) To what extent does your feature(s) currently interfere with your ability to work or study, or your role as a homemaker? (Please rate this even if you are not working or studying: we are interested in your ability to work or study.)
8) To what extent does your feature(s) currently interfere with your social life? (with other people, e.g. parties, pubs, clubs, outings, visits, home entertainment)
9) To what extent, do you feel your appearance is the most important aspect of who you are?
